Be Bold!

Change: Some people love it. Many shutter at the very word.

Whether we like to admit it or not, yes even those of us that like change, there are some areas in our life that need change and we just resist it.

Lately I’ve been trying to understand why people are so against change. Why do businesses resist it? We’ve all been in those places that just need a remodel and fresh look, right? Why do churches and ministry resist it or paint it to look like they embrace it but don’t really? Why do parents fall into patterns of parenting that they know is not right, but stick with it anyways? Why do spouses and marriages grow stagnat because two people never learn to bend and become one, rather than two? Why do people wear the same haircut for decades?

By nature, I’m a person that likes to see how things could be. That is, if change were to happen. This is one of the reasons I struggle to understand why someone wouldn’t even try it. What do you have to lose? You already know how to do whatever it is the current way you are doing it. And what you are currently doing is what has shaped you up until this point. We don’t forget that. But what would happen if you tried something new? What would happen if you embraced something new that could be better? Sure, it might be uncomfortable and feel strange or foreign, but maybe once the newness is gone, you’ll be asking yourself, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?!”

I recently discovered a photo I had framed on my desk when i worked in ministry. It reads, “Change is: to give up what we are, to become what we could be.”

Sometimes it takes just one person stepping out and leading change to start a movement. Be Bold. What’s holding you back? What needs change that could possibly take you and maybe even others to something better?

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
